Just after midnight, the South Farmingdale Fire Department was alerted for mutual aid to the East Farmingdale Fire Department to respond to Southern State Parkway. East Farmingdale was in the process of extricating and treating a trapped person in an auto.

Engine 971 stretched a protection handline while the Suffolk County medivac helicopter landed on the parkway to rapidly transport the patient to Stony Brook Hospital. The Chiefs and crew from 971 took up within an hour.
